The air fryer has definitely been one of my favorite kitchen appliances EVER. I absolutely love it. In fact, if I had known that I was going to love it this much I probably would have looked into buying a larger one. I’d most likely have no where to put it though seeing as my counters are already pretty full. I’ve decided to dub Fridays “Air Fryer Fridays” and my goal is to make something using the air fryer instead of the oven or stove top. This week I did Air Fried Purple Cabbage and it came out perfect!
I purchased my air fryer from Groupon in February of 2016. Air fryers had just come out and I was super excited to try it. Back then Snapchat was the big thing so I would add all my air fryer adventures to my story. I can’t tell you how many times people messaged me about this thing. It was non-stop and my response to people was always “you NEED to get one!” I was making all sorts of things in it. The one I have is made by Kalorik and so far I absolutely love it.
I normally bake cabbage steaks and set them out as a side dish. This is especially easy when I’m either meal prepping or making a large amount if I am meal prepping or having company over. I decided that Friday is a perfect day for using the air fryer since they are usually a pretty low key day and the last thing I want to do is clean up a huge mess that I’ve made in the kitchen. Since it is usually just my son and I for dinner, this should work out just great.
Most of the time when I am working with the vegetables I have in the fridge, I will go ahead and chop them all up and put them in containers so that they are ready to use when I go to prep a meal. I did the same thing with the cabbage and cut it all at once. I took 4 slices and sprayed both sides with a little cooking spray so that they wouldn’t dry out during the air frying process. I then seasoned them with some steak seasoning that I had on hand on and evenly spaced them out in the air fryer.
I set the air fryer at 400 for ten minutes and worked on putting together the rest of the meal while the air fryer did it’s magic. The greatest thing about the air fryer is that it’s a set it and forget it appliance. So it’s great for being able to work on either cleaning up your kitchen or getting the rest of dinner together.
What are your favorite things to make in the air fryer? What should I make next? Give me some ideas!
